Afterimage Series
In Six Memos for the Next Millennium, the final unfinished text left by Italo Calvino, he states “of the danger we run in losing a basic human faculty: the power of bringing visions into focus with our eyes shut.”(2) Drawing on the idea of the ungraspable or unknowable, this series privileges a vocabulary of the afterimage-an image that continues to appear in the eyes after a period of exposure to the original image. In an era of unseen systems and virtual forces, our networked world materializes through mirrored film, neon ink, UV-A light, string, and a graphite line. Tensions glitch as they become fluid and reflections recede into fragments, tracing the invisible paths and complexities of our networked existence.
